Best Photoshoot Locations in the Denver Metro Area

One of the best things about being a photographer in Denver is the endless variety of locations to shoot. Whether I’m capturing an intimate couples’ session, a bold fashion editorial, or a laid-back family portrait, Denver’s got it all—urban backdrops, stunning mountain views, and hidden natural gems. Here are some of my absolute favorite spots to shoot and why I love them.

1. Downtown Denver

There’s something about the energy of Downtown Denver that makes it such a fun place to shoot. The mix of sleek modern buildings, historic architecture, and city lights gives every shoot a cinematic feel. Whether it’s the movement of the 16th Street Mall, the classic charm of Larimer Square, or the raw street vibe of the alleys, downtown always delivers. Plus, I love finding those hidden nooks where the light hits just right—makes for some killer portraits.

2. Union Station

Union Station is iconic. The grand architecture, the warm lighting, and the constant movement of travelers give it a timeless, slightly nostalgic feel. Inside, it’s all about that soft, moody light and elegant details. Outside, the surrounding streets provide the perfect mix of urban and historic vibes. It’s an unbeatable spot for engagement shoots, headshots, or anything that calls for a little extra class.

3. City Park

City Park is hands-down one of my favorite places to shoot for one reason—the skyline view. That combo of water, trees, and the Denver skyline with the mountains behind it? Absolute perfection. It works for everything—family sessions, couples, and even some creative editorial work. If you catch it at golden hour, the entire park glows.

4. Bluff Lake Nature Center

Bluff Lake is one of those spots that doesn’t get talked about enough. It’s peaceful, quiet, and has this raw, untamed beauty that feels miles away from the city—even though it’s right on the edge of town. I love shooting here for its tall golden grasses, reflective water, and soft natural light. If you’re after an earthy, organic feel, this is the spot.

5. Elaine T. Valente Open Space

This one’s a hidden gem. Not many people know about it, which means it’s never packed like some of the other parks. It’s got open fields, tree-lined paths, and little ponds that catch the light just right. I love the versatility—whether you want a bright and airy session or something moodier, this park gives you options.

6. Red Rocks Park & Amphitheatre

If you want drama in your photos, Red Rocks is the place. Those massive rock formations give any shoot an epic, almost surreal backdrop. Whether I’m shooting an adventurous couple, a high-energy fitness session, or a powerful solo portrait, Red Rocks makes everything feel larger than life. And the sunrise and sunset light here? Unreal.

7. Garden of the Gods

I will never get tired of shooting at Garden of the Gods. Yes, it’s a bit of a drive, but it’s worth it every time. The contrast of the deep red rocks against the bright blue sky makes for some of the most stunning natural backdrops in Colorado. It’s wild, grand, and always a little different depending on the light and weather.

8. RiNo Art District

RiNo is all about personality. The street art here is constantly changing, so every shoot feels unique. The bold colors, abstract designs, and raw industrial spaces create the perfect setting for edgy, creative portraits. If you want something vibrant, modern, and a little unconventional, this is the spot.

9. Golden Ponds Park & Nature Area

This place is one of my go-to spots for soft, peaceful sessions. The ponds reflect the sky beautifully, the walking paths wind through lush greenery, and the mountain views in the distance tie it all together. It’s a relaxed setting with plenty of variety—perfect for golden-hour magic.

10. Belmar Park

Belmar Park is one of those spots that surprises people. Tucked away in Lakewood, it’s got open fields, a lake, and wooden walkways that add a little something extra to the background. The light here is soft and dreamy, making it a great spot for warm, intimate portraits.

Honorable Mentions

There are so many incredible locations around Denver that I could go on forever, but here are a few more that deserve a shoutout:

  • Cheesman Park – That classic pavilion? Absolute gold for elegant, airy portraits.

  • Washington Park – Classic Denver vibes with tree-lined paths, gardens, and two lakes.

  • Lookout Mountain – Epic mountain views without a long hike. Ideal for adventurous sessions.

  • Chautauqua Park – The Flatirons never disappoint. Wide-open meadows and dramatic mountain backdrops make this one of the best locations for outdoor lovers.

Final Thoughts

No matter the vibe you’re going for—city, nature, bold, or classic—Denver has something for everyone. These are just a few of my favorites, but I’m always up for exploring new places and finding the perfect location to match your vision.
